Nit de l'Art: Night art fairs in Mallorca
Mallorca is a land of world-famous artists. Names like Joan Miró or Miquel Barceló have placed the island on the international map of consecrated artists. For this reason, many municipalities understand that the made in Mallorca art must be visible.
The good Mallorcan climate favors the creation of the "Nits de l'art" (Night of art). These are nights in which the towns focus their activity in the exhibition of art pieces. Galleries keep their doors open and several public and private locations welcome the work of Mallorcan artists and foreign guests.
These are some of the most outstanding "Nits de l'art" in Mallorca.
Palma’s Nit de l'art:
The Nit de l'Art of Palma is the best known and the oldest among those that take place on the island and is celebrated in the middle of September. What began as a start-of-the-season party for the capital's art galleries has become a multitudinous event filled with more curious citizens than art dealers.
Museums take advantage of the day to open their doors to visitors, exhibit their collections and promote themselves. Many artists who do not enjoy permanent exhibitions can show their work and their talent in public places in the center of Palma as Plaça del Mercat or El Born.
The number of galleries, museums and artists involved in the Nit de l'Art de Palma crystallize in a wide variety of artistic proposals ranging from more conventional disciplines such as painting, sculpture or photography to another more daring proposals of contemporary art such as video art or multidisciplinary facilities.
Artdemossa is one of the most popular artistic nights of the Mallorcan summer. The natural charm of this village of the tramuntana is the perfect setting for an artistic evening. Artdemossa stands out for the great amount of artistic proposals that can be seen on the street.
Thus we can find full of art places with as much charm as the garden of La Cartoixa, where the canvases and sculptures coexist with the vegetation, as well as performances of artistic creation in the main streets of the town.
The music also has a prominent role in Artdemossa, and there are several stages where the visitor can enjoy concerts with various musical styles. This event is celebrated since 2006 during a night of the month of July.
Another artistic highlight is ArtNit Campos. Held in summer, this art night is a decided commitment to contemporary art. Multidisciplinary installations, works of mixed techniques, rhythms of electronic music and video projections are some of the arts that can be found in this evening.
ArtNitCampos promoted one of the last great artistic interventions in Mallorcan landscape. In the 2014 edition, the Madrid’s collective Boa Mistura converted the old machine-gun nests of Es Trenc beach into white canvases with verses from the poem "Cala Gentil" writen by Miquel Costa and Llobera.
Nitx de l'Art:
Also in the region of Migjorn, in the municipality of Felanitx, we find the artistic night Nitx de l'Art, which is part of the celebrations of the Sant Agustí festivities. Nitx de l'Art is one of the oldest art events, with a dozen editions.
His proposals revolve around contemporary art and the young values of Mallorcan art.
Nit de l’Art in Sa Pobla:
Nit de l'Art of Sa Pobla is one of the most recent art evenings, as it celebrated its first edition in the summer of 2016. Located on Passeig des tren, it stands out for its street character and its interventions of urban art in the street walls.
The works of the Nit de l'Art de Sa Pobla are a dialogue of cultures in which re-builded elements of Mallorcan culture and the art of exotic cultures and areas of conflict have also prominence.
Goletart in Binissalem:
Binissalem's Nit de l'art, also known as Goletart, is another small-format artistic night. It is celebrated in Goleta Street, where galleries, shops and private houses become exhibitors of art.
Goletart is an event prior of the Vermar’s celebrations and also has musical performances.
