Winter in Majorca: an awesome postcard
The towns and the Mallorquines become more accessible; the weather allows you to enjoy the best gastronomy and the most charming places of the Sierra de Tramuntana can be enjoyed thanks to the many excursions that they offer.
The different municipalities of the island of Mallorca become more accessible in Mallorcan winter. The villages are empty, and it is during the winter when the Mallorcan people become more open, and Mallorca is more authentic.
We highly recommend visiting one of the villages of the Sierra de Tramuntana, such as Valldemossa, Sóller, Deià or Escorca, and contemplate the magnificent views that they offer.
You can also go to one of the coastal villages, now empty, and walk along one of its coves or beaches: it is in winter when you will find them wilder, more virgin than ever.
It is during the winter when you can enjoy the best cuisine of Mallorca. The hot dishes, called "de cullera", are the protagonists: do not miss the arròs brut, the Mallorcan soups or the frit de matances (fried of slaughters).
Actually, it is during December that this deeply rooted Mallorcan tradition is carried out: the slaughter of the pig, which is still done in a traditional way by many families.
If you are around at the beginning of December, do not miss the Fair of Sant Tomàs and "Matances" Market in Sineu, where you can find and buy the main products derived from the massacres, especially the popular sobrasada.
During the winter months, when it is not so hot, you can make the best excursions in Mallorca. It is the Sierra de Tramuntana the mountains which offer the most popular excursions, especially that of the Ruta de la Pedra en Sec, which crosses the whole mountain range.
But it is also worth going to the Serra de Llevant, or visiting the coast, where you can find the most beautiful coves and beaches in their most virgin face.
