Santanyí Weekly Markets
Plenum Organis Festival: best organ music for a market day
The most popular and busy market in Santanyí's region in Mallorca is the one of Santanyí itself. It takes place twice a week: every Wednesday and every Saturday, all year long. You'll find there more than 150 stands with the best color, the freshest fruits and vegetables in the area and many more craft products from Mallorca.
The stands are installed in the main square of the town and its adjacent streets. The tourist website of Cala d'Or highlights: "What started as a natural way of making purchases for the locals has become a tourist attraction. The number of shopkeepers has not stopped growing in recent years and, with them, the visits of many curious and residents from other municipalities".
That is why the Santanyí's market is more than just a shopping place: locals will be there every market day, they chat and keep up to date on what's going on in the village. Also, many tourists find in these small stands the perfect gift or souvenir for their relatives and friends, besides being immersed in a good experience of the purest Mallorcan lifestyle, which is really linked to the markets tradition.
It is especially recommended to take a look around to find the best island products, such as cheese, sausage, sobrasada... But you will also find soaps, crafts, clothes, footwear, etc.
Apart from the market in Santanyí, you will find some a few more specialized markets in the area, such as the craft market of Cala Egos and Cala d'Or or the fruit, vegetables, and crafts market in Porto Petro.
Days of specialized markets:
CALA D'OR: Sunday afternoon (crafts)
CALA EGOS: Thursday afternoon (crafts)
PORTO PETRO: Friday afternoon (fruits, vegetables, and craft market)
