Valdemossa, a magnificent landscape in the Tramuntana surrounded by nature and stillness
Valldemossa is a village settled in the Serra de Tramuntana and located 17 km from the capital, Palma. It has many fountains and is surrounded by abundant vegetation (millenary olives, oaks and almond trees, etc.), which offers the visitor peace and beautiful views.
It is worth visiting its narrow and steep streets. It is the birthplace of the most revered saint of Mallorca, Catalina Thomàs, who was born in Valldemossa in 1531 and died as a saint in Palma in 1574. It is also worth visiting the parochial church, originally from the 12th century although was reformed widely in the s. XVIII.
The main attraction of Valldemossa has been and still is, with no doubt, the Monasterio de la Cartuja. Here you will see the rooms where the famous Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and his companion, the writer Aurore Dupin used, best known for her alias of George Sand. The footsteps of his brief visit (December 1838 - February 1839) originated an incessant pilgrimage.
